Biography

Leah Balding is a music educator and operatic soprano based in Edmonton, AB. She graduated with distinction from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Music in Voice in 2019, and completed Opera NUOVA’s emerging artist program in 2018. While at the University of Alberta she received the Peace River Pioneer Memorial Scholarship in Music, and the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship. Drawing from her experience with Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga, and Alexander Technique, Leah incorporates physical aspects into her teaching because she believes it is the foundation of expression and freedom. Along with being trained in voice and piano, Leah is a yoga teacher and a performer in the community. Past roles include Suzy in City Workers in Love, Second Spirit in Opera NUOVA’s The Arctic Flute, Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, and The Narrator in Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale. Leah is currently studying under the mentorship of Frances Ginzer.
